About Us

Jon and Sylvia Bednarski have operated Sherwood Acres Beef for many years, but had decided to scale back the cattle business and downsize their farming operation in their retirement.

Jon still wanted to be involved in farming and loves working on the land. He was intrigued by Christmas Tree farming and while discussing the idea with his daughter, Kristin and son-in-law, William, they loved the idea. Will and Kristin (who love the Christmas season) have always had trouble finding a place to cut their own tree near Lexington, Kentucky.

Jon’s newly-retired brother-in-law, David Yount, and sister, Karen Bednarski, had purchased a farm of their own, Rask Farm, down the road and were also interested in growing trees.

The discussion of starting a tree farm became more serious, and with the group bringing a variety of skills including backgrounds in business, marketing, communications and engineering, the idea began to take shape. The family partners planted the first trees on Sherwood Acres Farm in March of 2021 and have continued to plant trees and develop tree farm infrastructure in the months since.

Even the youngest family members have enjoyed participating in the tree planting and helping out on the farm. The business venture has been exciting for entire family.

In addition to you-cut trees, the farm will offer pre-cut trees, a Christmas shop, photo opportunities, crafts and other activities and events for guests.
